- Centralized IAM and least-privilege roles
- MFA and conditional access for admin paths
- Network segmentation and private connectivity where needed
- Logging, alerting, and backup/DR tested — not just documented
4. Control cost from day one (FinOps)
Cloud bills grow quietly when tagging, rightsizing, and scheduling are ignored. Establish budgets, anomaly alerts, and ownership tags before the first production cutover. Review spend weekly during the first 90 days.
5. Operate like a platform team
Adoption succeeds when operations mature: CI/CD for infrastructure, standardized images, runbooks, and on-call clarity. Hybrid approaches (including platforms like Nutanix for sensitive workloads) often give the best balance of control and agility.
